Prices are live and may change. Google Fi is excluded from the value ranking because it is a full phone plan rather than a travel data plan.
Digicel Bonaire and Flamingo Communications both run 4G across central Kralendijk, the cruise port and the southern dive-resort strip. Digicel has the wider footprint and is the default partner for most travel eSIM providers.
The southern dive sites from the Flamingo Sanctuary down through the salt pans and Pink Beach are well covered. Lac Bay (windsurfing) and the Sorobon Beach Resort stay live throughout the day.
The park entrance at Rincon and the visitor centre have functional 4G via Digicel. The 4x4 short loop has signal at major viewpoints; the long loop through the rugged northwest and the Boka Slagbaai bay drops signal in the deeper park interior.
The donkey sanctuary, Lake Goto flamingo area and Rincon village have functional coverage. The dirt-road climbs to the higher viewpoints around Brandaris (the island's highest point) thin out briefly.
The small uninhabited islet just offshore from Kralendijk has signal close to the main beach landing zones. Quieter snorkel and dive sites on the back side of the islet occasionally drop signal.
Kralendijk
- Arriving
- Flamingo International (BON) is a short ride from Kralendijk, the main town; transfers are by taxi or rental (dive trucks are popular). The airport has 4G from Digicel and Flamingo Communications. Crucially, Dutch and EU plans do NOT cover Bonaire, so a Caribbean-specific plan is needed for this diving and nature island.
- On the subway and rail
- Kralendijk moves by taxis and rentals; there is little public transit, and divers typically rent a truck. The town and the cruise port are walkable. Coverage holds across Kralendijk and the southern dive coast; Washington Slagbaai National Park in the north thins out.
- Free public WiFi
- The dive resorts, the boulevard cafes and the hotels provide WiFi, a strong supplement for the dive crowd. BON airport has terminal WiFi. Connectivity is reliable in town and along the resort coast.
- Coverage in the city
- Digicel Bonaire and Flamingo Communications both run 4G across central Kralendijk, the cruise port and the southern dive-resort strip, with Digicel the wider. The salt pans, Pink Beach and Lac Bay are covered; Washington Slagbaai's deeper interior drops signal.
- If you prefer a local SIM
- Digicel and Flamingo Communications sell SIMs in Kralendijk. Dutch and EU roaming do not include Bonaire, so a Caribbean-specific eSIM or a local SIM is required; dive-shop WiFi covers a good deal of a stay.
Grab an eSIM before you arrive in Bonaire to skip local SIM queues. Most urban areas offer 4G or better, while rural regions can slow down, so keep offline maps handy. Activating the eSIM in advance ensures you are connected the moment you clear customs.
Bonaire is a special municipality of the Netherlands in the southern Caribbean, popular with divers and nature lovers. Digicel and Flamingo Communications provide 4G coverage across this small island. Kralendijk (the main town), the resort areas, and most dive sites along the coast have reliable connectivity.
Despite being part of the Netherlands, Bonaire is NOT covered by EU roaming regulations or standard Dutch mobile plans. You will need a Caribbean-specific or Bonaire-specific eSIM plan. The island is small - about 24 miles long - so coverage is fairly consistent. Washington Slagbaai National Park in the north has more limited coverage. Bonaire's laid-back pace and underwater attractions mean most visitors are happy with moderate data for messaging and photo sharing.
- Dutch/EU plans do NOT cover Bonaire - you need a separate Caribbean plan
- Kralendijk and the resort coast have reliable coverage
- Coverage can be limited in Washington Slagbaai National Park
- The island is small enough for consistent coverage in most areas
- Hotel and dive shop Wi-Fi supplements cellular data well

- 1
Buy and install at home on WiFi.
Installation is not the same as activation. You can install the Bonaire eSIM days ahead and only switch it on after you land, which avoids burning days of validity in transit.
- 2
Screenshot your current APN before you swap.
If you ever need to switch back to your home line quickly, that screenshot saves a support call from a foreign airport.
- 3
Decide on your dual-SIM strategy.
Keep your home line on for SMS-based bank logins, two-factor codes, and emergency calls. Set the travel eSIM as the data line only. Most modern phones can do both simultaneously.
- 4
Disable iMessage on the travel eSIM line.
Otherwise iMessage will try to re-activate against the new line on arrival and you will spend the first ten minutes troubleshooting it instead of finding the taxi rank.
- 5
Download offline maps for Bonaire.
Google Maps and Apple Maps both support offline regions. Pull them down on home WiFi so a flaky activation never leaves you without a route from the airport. Our offline maps guide walks through it step by step.
- 6
Activate at the airport, not before.
Once the validity timer starts it does not pause. A 15-day plan you turn on the morning of departure burns a full day of validity before you even land.
We are building this section from real, verified traveler submissions rather than stock testimonials, so it stays empty until we have notes we can stand behind. If you have used an eSIM in Bonaire recently, a one-paragraph note on what worked (and what did not) helps the next traveler.
