Cyta, Epic (Vodafone-owned) and PrimeTel all run 4G with 5G appearing across central Nicosia, the Old Town and the coastal Larnaca strip. Cyta has the widest 5G footprint on the island and is the default partner for most travel eSIM providers.
The two main resort cities and the coastal road between them are fully covered. Hotels, beach clubs and the Paphos archaeological park all stay live; the cruise port at Limassol holds signal throughout.
The mountain villages and the Troodos resort area are well covered at the main settlements. Hiking trails (the Caledonia Falls path, Mount Olympus loop) have signal at trailheads; deeper forest sections see brief drops.
Polis and Latchi towns have functional 4G. The Akamas dirt-road trail to the Blue Lagoon and the Aphrodite Baths see real signal drops; even the popular 4x4 jeep tours into Lara Bay turtle reserve thin out.
Northern Cyprus uses Turkish carriers (Telsim, Vodafone Cyprus). Kyrenia, Famagusta and the divided Nicosia north have 4G; EU roaming does not apply north of the Green Line, so a regional eSIM is often needed for both halves.
Ayia Napa, Protaras and the Cape Greco viewpoints are fully covered. The sea caves and coastal walking trail are well served; longer boat trips to the open bay drop signal a few kilometres offshore.
Limassol
- Arriving
- Limassol has no airport of its own; the gateways are Larnaca (LCA) and Paphos (PFO), each about 50 km away. The Limassol Airport Express and Kapnos shuttles run from both, with Bolt and taxis as alternatives. The carriers cover the routes. All have full 5G from Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel. European regional eSIMs cover the south at no surcharge.
- On the subway and rail
- Limassol moves by EMEL buses and is walkable along the seafront Molos promenade and the old town; there is no rail. Bolt operates. Coverage holds across the seafront, the Marina and the cruise port. The drive along the coast to Paphos and the wine villages stays connected.
- Free public WiFi
- The malls (MyMall, the Limassol Marina) leave WiFi open, and cafes along the Molos promenade and the hotels offer WiFi. Connectivity is easy across the tourist strip, with a working eSIM covering the Troodos day trips.
- Coverage in the city
- Cyta, Epic (Vodafone-owned) and PrimeTel all run 5G across the Limassol seafront, the Marina, the old town and castle, and the hotel strip. Cyta has the widest island footprint. The cruise port and the Molos promenade are covered. Note this applies to the Republic (south); crossing the Green Line north drops EU coverage.
- If you prefer a local SIM
- Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel sell prepaid SIMs in Limassol and at the two airports. A European regional eSIM covers the Republic of Cyprus but NOT Northern Cyprus, so a separate or Turkey-covering plan is needed if you cross the Green Line.
Paphos
- Arriving
- Paphos International (PFO) is about 15 km from the town, served by bus, shuttle and taxi. All terminals have full 5G from Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel. As an EU member, the Republic of Cyprus is covered by European regional eSIMs at no surcharge. Have data ready for maps around the harbour and the archaeological park.
- On the subway and rail
- Paphos moves by OSYPA buses; Kato Paphos around the harbour and archaeological park and the upper old town (Ktima) are walkable. There is no rail. Coverage holds across the harbour, the UNESCO sites and the Coral Bay resort strip, thinning on the Akamas peninsula approaches.
- Free public WiFi
- The Kings Avenue Mall, the cafes around the harbour and the hotels provide WiFi. PFO airport has free terminal WiFi. Connectivity is easy in the tourist core, with a working eSIM covering the Akamas and Troodos day trips.
- Coverage in the city
- Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel all cover Kato Paphos harbour, the Paphos Archaeological Park with its Roman mosaics, the Tombs of the Kings and the old town. The Coral Bay resort strip is covered. The Akamas peninsula dirt roads toward the Blue Lagoon and Aphrodite's Baths see real signal drops.
- If you prefer a local SIM
- Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel sell prepaid SIMs at PFO and in town. A European regional eSIM covers the Republic (south) but not the Turkish-operated north, so plan separately if a Green Line crossing is on your itinerary.
Grab an eSIM before you arrive in Cyprus to skip local SIM queues. Most urban areas offer 4G or better, while rural regions can slow down, so keep offline maps handy. Activating the eSIM in advance ensures you are connected the moment you clear customs.
Cyprus offers reliable mobile connectivity for travelers exploring its beaches, mountain villages, and ancient ruins. Cyta, Epic, and PrimeTel provide good 4G coverage across the Republic of Cyprus (the southern, internationally recognized part of the island), with the strongest signals in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos. Coastal resort areas maintain solid coverage, and the Troodos Mountains have 4G in most villages, though remote forest trails may lose signal.
As an EU member, the Republic of Cyprus is included in European regional eSIM plans, making connectivity straightforward and cost-effective. Note that coverage details here apply only to the southern Republic of Cyprus - Northern Cyprus operates on separate Turkish networks with different coverage and roaming rules. If you plan to cross the Green Line into the north, be aware that your EU plan will not work there.
- EU regional eSIM plans cover the Republic of Cyprus (south) but NOT Northern Cyprus
- If crossing the Green Line into Northern Cyprus, your EU plan will stop working - see our Northern Cyprus page
- Coverage is strong in all coastal cities and resort areas
- Download offline maps for hiking in the Troodos Mountains where coverage can be spotty
- Data is useful for the Cyprus public bus system and navigating archaeological sites

- 1
Buy and install at home on WiFi.
Installation is not the same as activation. You can install the Cyprus eSIM days ahead and only switch it on after you land, which avoids burning days of validity in transit.
- 2
Screenshot your current APN before you swap.
If you ever need to switch back to your home line quickly, that screenshot saves a support call from a foreign airport.
- 3
Decide on your dual-SIM strategy.
Keep your home line on for SMS-based bank logins, two-factor codes, and emergency calls. Set the travel eSIM as the data line only. Most modern phones can do both simultaneously.
- 4
Disable iMessage on the travel eSIM line.
Otherwise iMessage will try to re-activate against the new line on arrival and you will spend the first ten minutes troubleshooting it instead of finding the taxi rank.
- 5
Download offline maps for Cyprus.
Google Maps and Apple Maps both support offline regions. Pull them down on home WiFi so a flaky activation never leaves you without a route from the airport. Our offline maps guide walks through it step by step.
- 6
Activate at the airport, not before.
Once the validity timer starts it does not pause. A 15-day plan you turn on the morning of departure burns a full day of validity before you even land.
We are building this section from real, verified traveler submissions rather than stock testimonials, so it stays empty until we have notes we can stand behind. If you have used an eSIM in Cyprus recently, a one-paragraph note on what worked (and what did not) helps the next traveler.
