Prices are live and may change. Google Fi is excluded from the value ranking because it is a full phone plan rather than a travel data plan.
Magti, Cellfie (formerly Geocell) and Beeline Georgia all run dense 4G with 5G appearing across central Tbilisi, the Old Town and the Saburtalo district. Magti has the widest 5G footprint nationally and is the default partner for most travel eSIM providers.
Batumi city, the boulevard and the coastal road south to the Turkish border are well covered. The mountain villages just inland of the coast (Mtirala, Machakhela) thin out faster than the highway suggests.
Telavi, Sighnaghi and the main wine-route villages are fully covered. The smaller monasteries (Alaverdi, Ikalto) and the rural vineyards on the David Gareja desert road thin out, with Magti the most consistent.
Mestia town has functional 4G via Magti. The drive into Ushguli (the highest permanently inhabited village in Europe) has signal at the main villages; trekking routes between Mestia and Ushguli drop coverage in the deeper valleys.
Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) town and Gergeti Trinity Church have signal at the village. The Jvari Pass and the longer climbs toward Mt. Kazbek lose coverage; the trail to Gergeti Glacier is reliably offline.
The Abano Pass road into Tusheti (one of the world's most dangerous mountain roads) has minimal signal beyond Pshaveli. Tusheti villages have no cellular coverage for parts of the year; treat the high-mountain regions of Georgia as offline territory.
Tbilisi
- Arriving
- Tbilisi International (TBS) is about 17 km from the centre; transfers are by bus 37, the airport train, a taxi or Bolt and Yandex Go. The airport has 4G with 5G from Magti, Silknet and Cellfie. Georgia is not in the EU but is very eSIM-friendly, with cheap data. Activate on arrival for the old town.
- On the subway and rail
- The Tbilisi Metro (two lines) has cell coverage on the stations, alongside buses, the cable cars up to Narikala and Mtatsminda, and the Bolt and Yandex Go ride apps. Coverage is strong across the Old Town and Rustaveli Avenue. The old town climbing to the fortress is walkable.
- Free public WiFi
- Cafes (abundant), the malls (Galleria Tbilisi, East Point), the old town and the hotels provide WiFi. TBS airport has terminal WiFi. Connectivity is easy across the capital, with very cheap cellular data on top.
- Coverage in the city
- Magti, Cellfie (formerly Geocell) and Silknet all run 4G with 5G across the Old Town, Rustaveli Avenue, the Abanotubani sulfur baths and the Narikala fortress reached by cable car. Magti has the widest 5G footprint. Data is very affordable, and Georgia is well covered by international eSIMs.
- If you prefer a local SIM
- Magti and Silknet sell prepaid SIMs at TBS and in the city, with generous, cheap plans. Georgia is well supported by international travel eSIMs at low cost, so either path works well for a stay covering Tbilisi and the day trips.
Batumi
- Arriving
- Batumi International (BUS) is about 5 km from the centre; transfers are by bus, taxi or Bolt. The airport has 4G from Magti, Silknet and Cellfie. Batumi is the Black Sea resort and casino hub. Georgia is eSIM-friendly with cheap data, so getting connected on arrival is easy.
- On the subway and rail
- Batumi moves by buses, taxis and the Bolt ride app, with the Argo cable car up the hillside; the seaside boulevard is walkable. There is no metro. Coverage holds across the city and the coastal road south toward the Turkish border.
- Free public WiFi
- Cafes, hotels, the casinos and the Batumi Boulevard provide WiFi. BUS airport has terminal WiFi. Connectivity is easy across the resort city, with cheap cellular data on top.
- Coverage in the city
- Magti, Cellfie and Silknet all cover Batumi, the seaside boulevard, the Alphabet Tower, the moving Ali and Nino statue and the old town. The coastal road south stays connected; the mountain villages just inland (Mtirala) thin out faster than the highway suggests.
- If you prefer a local SIM
- Magti and Silknet sell prepaid SIMs at BUS and in town, cheaply. As with Tbilisi, international travel eSIMs cover Georgia well at low cost, so either option is simple for a Batumi and Black Sea trip.
Grab an eSIM before you arrive in Georgia to skip local SIM queues. Most urban areas offer 4G or better, while rural regions can slow down, so keep offline maps handy. Activating the eSIM in advance ensures you are connected the moment you clear customs.
Georgia has become one of the most popular emerging travel destinations in the region, and its mobile infrastructure has kept pace with growing tourism. Magti, Geocell (now Silknet), and Beeline Georgia provide 4G coverage in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, and along the main highway corridors connecting these cities. Tbilisi offers reliable connectivity throughout the old town, along Rustaveli Avenue, and in the surrounding neighborhoods - perfect for navigation, restaurant discovery, and sharing photos.
The Black Sea coast around Batumi has solid coverage for beach and nightlife areas. Georgia's legendary mountain regions - Kazbegi, Svaneti, and Tusheti - present more of a challenge, with coverage thinning considerably on mountain roads and in remote highland villages.
Georgia is not in the EU but has become very eSIM-friendly for tourists, with affordable data costs that make it one of the best-value destinations for connected travel.
- Georgia is NOT in the EU but is well-covered by many international eSIM providers at low cost
- Download offline maps before heading to Kazbegi, Svaneti, or any mountain trekking routes
- Coverage in Tbilisi and Batumi is strong and handles streaming, navigation, and video calls well
- Data is very affordable - generous plans are available for just a few dollars
- The Georgian military highway to Kazbegi has intermittent coverage - save directions offline

- 1
Buy and install at home on WiFi.
Installation is not the same as activation. You can install the Georgia eSIM days ahead and only switch it on after you land, which avoids burning days of validity in transit.
- 2
Screenshot your current APN before you swap.
If you ever need to switch back to your home line quickly, that screenshot saves a support call from a foreign airport.
- 3
Decide on your dual-SIM strategy.
Keep your home line on for SMS-based bank logins, two-factor codes, and emergency calls. Set the travel eSIM as the data line only. Most modern phones can do both simultaneously.
- 4
Disable iMessage on the travel eSIM line.
Otherwise iMessage will try to re-activate against the new line on arrival and you will spend the first ten minutes troubleshooting it instead of finding the taxi rank.
- 5
Download offline maps for Georgia.
Google Maps and Apple Maps both support offline regions. Pull them down on home WiFi so a flaky activation never leaves you without a route from the airport. Our offline maps guide walks through it step by step.
- 6
Activate at the airport, not before.
Once the validity timer starts it does not pause. A 15-day plan you turn on the morning of departure burns a full day of validity before you even land.
We are building this section from real, verified traveler submissions rather than stock testimonials, so it stays empty until we have notes we can stand behind. If you have used an eSIM in Georgia recently, a one-paragraph note on what worked (and what did not) helps the next traveler.
