Network coverage, region by region
Most “best eSIM” pages tell you Poland has good coverage and stop there. Here is what actually works where, by region, sourced from carrier roaming agreements and updated when carriers change partners.
Warsaw and Kraków Metros
Excellent

Orange Polska, Plus, T-Mobile Polska and Play all run 5G across central Warsaw, the Old Town and Praga. Kraków's Main Market Square, Kazimierz and Podgórze are all densely covered. Orange has the widest 5G footprint nationally.

Gdańsk and the Tri-City Coast
Excellent

The Tri-City corridor (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot) and the SKM commuter rail line keep 5G end to end. The Hel Peninsula and the broader Baltic coast resorts are well covered through to the German border.

Tatra Mountains (Zakopane, Morskie Oko)
Variable

Zakopane town and the lower hiking routes are covered. The high trails to Morskie Oko, Kasprowy Wierch and Giewont have signal at the trailheads but drop in the deeper valleys; Plus is typically the strongest in the mountains.

Białowieża Primeval Forest
Limited

Białowieża village and the visitor centre are covered. The strict reserve interior, where the European bison live, has minimal signal on every carrier; treat the bison-tracking walks as offline territory.

Mazury (Masurian) Lake District
Good

Lakeside towns including Mikołajki and Giżycko are well covered. Smaller resort villages and the sailing routes between lakes have signal in the harbours; mid-lake crossings can drop on the deeper sections.

Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial (Oświęcim)
Strong

The Auschwitz I museum, the Birkenau memorial site and the shuttle bus between them are all fully covered. The town of Oświęcim and the rail connection from Kraków stay live throughout.

City-by-city connectivity in Poland
Carrier coverage is the same nationwide story; the airport, the subway, and the free WiFi situation change city by city. Here is what travelers asking specifically about these cities actually need to know.

Warsaw

Arriving
Warsaw Chopin (WAW) is about 10 km south of the centre, with low-cost flights using Warsaw Modlin (WMI) about 40 km out. From Chopin, the SKM and Koleje Mazowieckie trains reach Warszawa Centralna and Śródmieście in around 20 minutes with continuous signal; bus 175 is the alternative. All terminals have full 5G from Orange, Plus, Play and T-Mobile. As an EU country, European regional eSIMs work here at no extra cost.
On the subway and rail
The Warsaw Metro (lines M1 and M2) has cell coverage on the platforms and through the tunnels. The dense tram network (Tramwaje Warszawskie), the ZTM buses and the SKM commuter rail all stay connected. Jakdojade is the standard journey-planner app and needs data. Coverage holds across the Vistula river crossings to the Praga district on the east bank.
Free public WiFi
The malls leave WiFi open: Złote Tarasy by the central station, Westfield Arkadia and Galeria Mokotów. The Old Town has municipal public WiFi around the Royal Castle and Market Square. Cafes across Śródmieście and Powiśle offer WiFi with a purchase. WAW airport has free terminal WiFi. Friction is low, and Poland has some of the cheapest mobile data in the EU regardless.
Coverage in the city
Orange Polska has the widest 5G footprint across Warsaw, with Plus, Play and T-Mobile competitive. The Old Town, the Royal Route, Łazienki Park, the business district around the Palace of Culture and the Warsaw Spire, and the riverside Praga are all densely covered. The intercity trains to Kraków and Gdańsk hold data the whole way. Data here is excellent value by EU standards.
If you prefer a local SIM
Orange, Plus, Play and T-Mobile prepaid SIMs are sold at WAW arrivals and in Empik stores and kiosks across the city. Poland requires SIM registration with photo ID at the point of sale. Tourist data bundles are very cheap. For most visitors a European regional eSIM is the simplest path, covering Poland alongside neighbouring EU countries.

Kraków

Arriving
John Paul II Kraków-Balice (KRK) is about 12 km west of the centre. The airport train runs to Kraków Główny, the main station, in roughly 20 minutes with continuous signal; buses 208, 252 and 300 also serve the route. All terminals have full 5G from Orange, Plus, Play and T-Mobile. European regional eSIMs work at no surcharge under EU roaming rules.
On the subway and rail
Kraków has no metro; the MPK trams and buses cover the city and stay connected throughout. Kraków Główny is the rail hub for day trips to Auschwitz, Wieliczka and Zakopane. Jakdojade handles journey planning and needs data. The compact Old Town is best walked, and coverage holds across the Planty ring and into Kazimierz and Podgórze.
Free public WiFi
The Main Market Square (Rynek Główny) has municipal public WiFi, and Galeria Krakowska by the station leaves WiFi open. Cafes throughout the Old Town and the Kazimierz Jewish Quarter offer WiFi with a purchase. KRK airport has free terminal WiFi. Hotels provide guest WiFi as standard.
Coverage in the city
All four carriers run 5G across Kraków, with Orange the most consistent. The Old Town, Wawel Castle, the Cloth Hall, Kazimierz and Podgórze are densely covered. The Auschwitz-Birkenau day-trip route stays connected; the Wieliczka Salt Mine, being deep underground, has limited signal on the tour. The Tatra-bound buses to Zakopane hold data through the foothills.
If you prefer a local SIM
The same carriers (Orange, Plus, Play, T-Mobile) sell prepaid SIMs at KRK and in Empik and kiosks across the centre. Photo-ID registration applies as it does nationwide. Tourist bundles are inexpensive. A European regional eSIM is the easiest option for a Kraków trip combined with other EU stops.
Local Network Insights
Curated tips to help you stay connected in Poland.

Grab an eSIM before you arrive in Poland to skip local SIM queues. Most urban areas offer 4G or better, while rural regions can slow down, so keep offline maps handy. Activating the eSIM in advance ensures you are connected the moment you clear customs.

Connectivity Overview
What to expect for mobile connectivity in Poland.

Poland delivers impressive mobile connectivity for eSIM travelers, combining modern infrastructure with some of Europe's most affordable data prices. Plus, Orange, Play, and T-Mobile compete aggressively, resulting in strong coverage across the country. 5G networks are live in Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Gdansk, and Poznan, while reliable 4G LTE blankets smaller cities, towns, and major highway corridors.

As an EU member state, Poland benefits from EU roaming regulations, so most European regional eSIM plans work seamlessly here alongside other EU destinations. Rural eastern Poland and mountainous areas near the Tatra range may see reduced speeds, but complete dead zones are rare in populated areas. For budget-conscious travelers, Poland offers excellent value - data costs are among the lowest in the EU.

Practical Data Tips
  • EU regional eSIM plans cover Poland alongside other European countries - great for multi-stop trips
  • Download offline maps for the Tatra Mountains and rural eastern regions where coverage thins out
  • Data works reliably on intercity trains between Warsaw, Krakow, and Gdansk
  • Most restaurants, cafes, and shopping centers in cities offer free Wi-Fi as a supplement
  • Poland has some of the cheapest mobile data in the EU - budget plans go further here

Before you fly: a 6-step checklist
The mistakes that cost travelers in Poland are almost always procedural, not which-eSIM-did-you-buy. Here is the order of operations that works.
  1. 1

Buy and install at home on WiFi.

Installation is not the same as activation. You can install the Poland eSIM days ahead and only switch it on after you land, which avoids burning days of validity in transit.

  2. 2

Screenshot your current APN before you swap.

If you ever need to switch back to your home line quickly, that screenshot saves a support call from a foreign airport.

  3. 3

    Decide on your dual-SIM strategy.

Keep your home line on for SMS-based bank logins, two-factor codes, and emergency calls. Set the travel eSIM as the data line only. Most modern phones can do both simultaneously.

  4. 4

Disable iMessage on the travel eSIM line.

Otherwise iMessage will try to re-activate against the new line on arrival and you will spend the first ten minutes troubleshooting it instead of finding the taxi rank.

  5. 5

    Download offline maps for Poland.

Google Maps and Apple Maps both support offline regions. Pull them down on home WiFi so a flaky activation never leaves you without a route from the airport. Our offline maps guide walks through it step by step.

  6. 6

Activate at the airport, not before.

Once the validity timer starts it does not pause. A 15-day plan you turn on the morning of departure burns a full day of validity before you even land.
