Mauritel (Maroc Telecom subsidiary), Mattel and Chinguitel all run 3G with patches of 4G across central Nouakchott, the Marché Capitale and the El Mina fishing-port district. Mauritel has the wider 3G/4G national footprint.
Nouadhibou, the country's industrial hub at the Western Sahara border, has functional 3G/4G in town. The famous iron-ore train (one of the world's longest trains, running 700+ km from Zouérat to Nouadhibou) is mostly offline; the start and end stations have signal.
The Banc d'Arguin National Park (UNESCO, one of the world's most important sites for migratory birds) has very basic signal at the Iwik fishing village. The deeper park, the Imraguen fishing-tribe villages and the boat trips through the bird colonies are reliably offline.
Atar (the regional capital) has basic Mauritel signal. The ancient caravan cities of Chinguetti and Ouadane (both UNESCO sites with medieval libraries) have minimal coverage at the centres; the desert routes between them and the longer 4x4 dune crossings are offline.
The vast Sahara interior - the salt flats at Sebkhet Ndrhamcha, the dune fields of Erg Akchâr and the Adrar plateau approaches - has effectively no cellular signal. Multi-day desert expeditions require satellite communication.
Rosso, the busy ferry-crossing town with Senegal, has functional Mauritel and Mattel signal. The drive along the Senegal River valley has signal at the larger towns; the deeper Sahelian villages thin briefly.

- Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International (NKC) is close to the capital; transfers are by taxi. The airport has 3G/4G from Mauritel, Mattel and Chinguitel. Nouakchott is the desert capital on the Atlantic, one of only two cities with reliable data. Download everything offline before any travel into the Saharan interior.

- Nouakchott moves by shared taxis and minibuses; there is no metro. Coverage holds across the centre, the Marché Capitale and the El Mina fishing port. The vast Saharan interior beyond the capital is largely offline.
- Free public WiFi
- Hotels and the larger restaurants provide WiFi, generally the most reliable option. NKC airport has basic WiFi. Connectivity is concentrated in the capital.
